چکیده

Actins are cytoskeletal proteins that regulate cell motility. Cellular actins of various species have very similar immunological and physical properties. Actins are highly conserved proteins that are involved in cell motility, structure and integrity. Alpha actins are a major constituent of the contractile apparatus. Alpha-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) is commonly used as a marker of myofibroblast formation. Lipopolysaccharides (LPS), also known as lipoglycans and endotoxin, are large molecules consisting of a lipid and a polysaccharide composed of Oantigen, outer core and inner core joined by a covalent bond. LPS is found in the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria, and elicit strong immune responses in animals. [Ma H, Young M, Yang Y. Inhibiting toll-like receptor 4 signaling ameliorates pulmonary fibrosis during acute lung injury induced by lipopolysaccharide: an experimental study

BACKGROUND Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) is essential in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced fibroblast activation and collagen secretion in vitro. However, its effects on the process of lung fibroblast activation and fibrosis initiation during LPS induced acute lung injury (ALI) remain unknown. The goal of the present study was to determine the effect of inhibiting TLR4 on LPS-induced ALI and fibro...

Immunohistochemical demonstration of blood vessels alpha-actin down-regulation in LPS-treated pregnant mice.

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS), produced by gram-negative bacteria, mediates vasodilatation, changing the action of contractile smooth muscle by increasing expression of nitric oxide synthase and prostaglandin. For the first time we demonstrate, by immunohistochemical methods, that administration of LPS to pregnant mice causes alpha-actin-mediated down-regulation of contractile filaments in uterine b...

The NH2-terminal peptide of α–smooth muscle actin inhibits force generation by the myofibroblast in vitro and in vivo

Myofibroblasts are specialized fibroblasts responsible for granulation tissue contraction and the soft tissue retractions occurring during fibrocontractive diseases. The marker of fibroblast-myofibroblast modulation is the neo expression of alpha-smooth muscle actin (alpha-SMA), the actin isoform typical of vascular smooth muscle cells that has been suggested to play an important role in myofib...

Alpha Smooth Muscle Actin Expression in a Case of Ameloblastic Carcinoma: a Case Report

BACKGROUND The aim of the present article is to report a case of ameloblastic carcinoma and use a marker alpha smooth muscle actin as a tool to differentiate cases of ameloblastic carcinoma from that of ameloblastoma. METHODS Case study reporting a case of ameloblastic carcinoma (AC) with expression of alpha smooth muscle actin (alpha-SMA) as a marker for emergence of stromal myofibroblasts. ...

Detection of epithelial to mesenchymal transition in airways of a bleomycin induced pulmonary fibrosis model derived from an α-smooth muscle actin-Cre transgenic mouse

BACKGROUND Epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) in alveolar epithelial cells (AECs) has been widely observed in patients suffering interstitial pulmonary fibrosis. In vitro studies have also demonstrated that AECs could convert into myofibroblasts following exposure to TGF-beta1. In this study, we examined whether EMT occurs in bleomycin (BLM) induced pulmonary fibrosis, and the involveme...
